Welcome to RomeBeauty.com! Thank you for visiting. Through this Website, I hope to display the history and beauty of Rome Township, OH, and also Athalia and Proctorville. This site is slowly updating.
Rome Township is situated in southern Ohio along the banks of the Ohio River. As the name suggests, the Rome Beauty apple was first grown here in the 1800’s.

Lock 27
One of the original wicket-style lock and dams from the early 1900’s. Long since decommissioned to make way for the new roller-style dams in Eureka, OH and Greenup, KY.
The original lock master houses (built around 1922), esplanade and ramp are still resent for public enjoyment. In the 1970’s the lock workers houses served as Fairland Kindergarten schools.
The original Powerhouse was torn down several decades ago, but its footprint now contains picnic tables, trees and park benches.
GREAT NEWS! Old Lock 27 recently received $5.2 million from Gov. Dewine for development for a 100-boat marina!
